FAQ

Package questions

I'm coming to the hamam for the first time. Which package should I choose?

For a first hamam experience, we recommend Classic Hamam or Coffee Revival. Classic Hamam is a straightforward 55-minute ritual of warming and preparation, the traditional kese and foam massage, and rest. Coffee Revival is a 65-minute option that adds a full-body coffee peeling to the same flow.

What should I bring with me to the hamam?

You don't need to bring anything. Towels, peştamal, slippers, and shampoo are all provided for you personally by the hamam. If you prefer, you're welcome to bring and use your own swimsuit, slippers, or personal care products.

Are the men's and women's sections together?

Men's and women's sections are separate, though bathing in a hamam is, at heart, a shared experience carried on the same way for centuries.

Which packages include the kese and foam massage?

The traditional kese and foam massage is included in all five packages: Classic Hamam, Coffee Revival, Natural Renewal, Palace Ritual, and Sultan.

Which packages include massages?

The traditional kese and foam massage is included in all five packages. Additional massages — head-neck, scented olive-oil, extended oil, foot, and honey massage — are found in Natural Renewal, Palace Ritual, and Sultan.

How long does a hamam experience take?

Duration depends on the package you choose. The shortest, Classic Hamam, is 55 minutes; the longest, Sultan, is 180 minutes. Guests seeking a longer, more relaxed experience generally choose longer packages such as Palace Ritual or Sultan.

When are refreshments served?

Traditional tea or seasonal şerbet is served at the close of the ritual, in the resting area.

What products are used in the packages?

Massages are performed with scented olive oil, and natural olive-oil soap is used for cleansing. Natural Renewal, Palace Ritual, and Sultan also include a natural clay massage; Coffee Revival includes a full-body coffee peeling.

Do I need to make a reservation at Sokullu Mehmet Paşa Hamamı?

No, a reservation isn't required. However, we can't guarantee availability at busy times, so we recommend booking ahead for a smoother experience.

Is there a safe place to leave my valuables?

Yes. Every guest is assigned their own lockable space to use for the duration of their visit.

What happens during a Turkish hamam visit?

A Turkish hamam visit follows the same principle throughout: warming with hot marble and steam, then cleansing the skin with a traditional kese and washing with natural olive-oil soap foam, followed by facial or body treatments depending on the package, and finally rest with tea or seasonal şerbet in the resting area.

Good to know

Before you visit

Opening Hours Open daily — men 08:00–23:00, women 09:00–21:00.

Sokullu Mehmet Paşa Hamamı is open every day. The men's section operates 08:00–23:00, and the women's section 09:00–21:00. The recommended last reservation time is 21:30 for men and 19:30 for women, to allow time for the full ritual.

Recommendations & Notes No outside food or drink, and photos only in the resting area.

Outside food and drink are not permitted in the hamam. In line with hygiene rules, no food or drink is served in the warm or hot rooms — guests may order from our menu in the resting area (soğukluk). Photos and videos may only be taken in the resting area, without disturbing other guests or including them in the shot, and in keeping with the general rules of a public establishment.

Separate, Yet Shared Men's and women's sections are separate, but the ritual is a shared one.

At Sokullu Mehmet Paşa Hamamı, men and women are served in separate sections — though we'd like to remind you that bathing in a hamam is, at heart, a shared experience, carried on the same way for centuries.

For Your Health A few conditions where we advise against a hamam visit.

Hamam treatments are not recommended for guests with heart or vascular conditions, high or low blood pressure, respiratory conditions (asthma, bronchitis, COPD), diabetes, or a urinary tract infection, or for guests who have recently had surgery or are undergoing cancer treatment. Guests with severe skin conditions such as burns or allergies, open wounds, or epilepsy are unable to make use of our services. Pregnant guests are advised not to enter the hamam. Drinking alcohol, or arriving very hungry or very full, before your visit are also worth keeping in mind for your health.

Your Valuables Are Safe A lockable cabinet is assigned to you for the duration of your visit.

You can safely store your personal belongings throughout your hamam experience in the lockable cabinet assigned to you.

No Need to Bring Anything Peştamal, towels, and personal care items are all provided.

For your comfort, everything you might need — peştamal, slippers, towels, shampoo, and other personal care items — is provided at the hamam. If you prefer, you're welcome to bathe in your own swimsuit or bikini. You're also welcome to bring your own personal care products and use your own shampoo and soap in the washing area.

For an Enjoyable Visit Arrive 15 minutes early; the full ritual takes about 90 minutes.

We recommend arriving 15 minutes before your reservation time, so you can settle in comfortably before your ritual begins. From the moment you enter, our staff will guide you throughout. A full hamam experience — including washing and resting time — takes approximately 90 minutes; we kindly ask that you book your reservation with this duration in mind.
